My project was going to start off as a possible awareness campaign about how social media seems to have made people more narcissistic, but it developed into an exhibition of the history of narcissism. While researching this project I am satisfied that narcissism has existed for as long as humans have existed, I guess it is just more noticeable these days due to social media and how so-called ‘reality’ stars have become popular. The main poster images for the exhibition are mosaic pictures made up of 400 different people from history that are known to be narcissistic. I wanted this exhibition to be hosted at a grandiose venue, so I chose the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to be the host. The 400 narcissists include characters from Greek Mythology, Ancient Leaders, Murders, Criminals, Modern leaders, Royalty, Singers, Sports Stars, Actors and Radio & TV personalities. The whole spectrum of narcissism is represented in these people from supremely talented and likable people... to evil and hated people. I have created advertising and promotional work for the exhibition and also branded the V&A museum including way-finding banners and quotes from the narcissists. There is also a webpage for the event, tickets, an official programme, and a limited edition set of Top Trumps available from the gift shop.
